`Abdu'l-Bahá, the son of Bahá'u'lláh Portrait by Duffy Sheridan |
The Bahá'í Faith is an independent religion with adherents in virtually every nation, territory, and island on the planet. The Bahá'í world community, now over 7 million believers, includes and unites people from nearly all nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, tribes, classes, faith traditions, trades, and professions.
Originating in 1844, the Bahá'í community is guided by the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892).
Bahá'ís believe that Bahá'u'lláh is the Revealer of God's Word for this current stage in humanity's development and is the Promised One of all religions.
Bahá'ís believe in the following principles and truths:
- God is the Creator of all
- Humanity is one human family
- Divine revelation is continuous
- All religions are stages of God's Faith
- The equality of men and women is important
- Moral and spiritual conduct is vital
- Prayer and devotion to God is essential
- Service to humanity is worship
- Education must be available to all
- Social and economic problems have spiritual solutions
- Each person must investigate truth
- Humanity is approaching its maturity and is ready to live in peace
Words of Bahá'u'lláh:
O well-beloved ones! The tabernacle of unity hath been raised; regard ye not one another as strangers. Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch. We cherish the hope that the light of justice may shine upon the world and sanctify it from tyranny.
Blessed and happy is he that ariseth to promote the best interests of the peoples and kindreds of the earth.
It is not for him to pride himself who loveth his country, but rather for him who loveth the whole world. The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.
It is incumbent upon every man of insight and understanding to strive to translate that which hath been written into reality and action.
